These types of products use resin beads and sodium chloride (salt) to operate normally. Through the resin, an ion exchange occurs which is regenerated with the salt solution, thereby acting to remove water hardness and consequently scale.

The regenerating salt is pure, crystallized, washed, centrifuged, and dried, and is free of dirt or grit that can damage, scratch, or clog the different parts of the ion exchange system.
